TCLP Metals

The Toxcicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) is designed simulate the possibility of contaminants leaching of a sample of waste material over time in a landfill.

The test is carried out by first testing the buffering capability of the material. Then, based on this result, an extraction solution is selected and the material is extracted over an 18-hour period.

The resulting extract is then analyzed using ICP-AES technology for the metals of interest.

Below is a list of the typical metals analyzed using this procedure.

TCLP – 7 Metals

Arsenic (As)
Barium (Ba)
Cadmium (Cd)
Chromium (Cr)
Lead (Pb)
Selenium (Se)
Silver (Ag)

TCLP-8 Metals

TCLP-7 + Mercury (Hg)
